9254   A ca. 1830-50 Pennsylvania very diminutive folk art box with domed lid.  It is constructed with wooden pegs, miniscule brads, wire hinges and wire latch.  Beneath its early well patinated layer of varnish, the original robin’s egg blue ground, tulip and fruit  decorations are sharp and well preserved.  On the bottom a later pencil inscription reads, Emma Thompson, Salona PA, from Grandma Hyatt.  With the exception of a missing sliver on the bottom it remains a very nice box.  Size: 4.25”L x 3”W x 2.5”H    $475.00

9233   In its original paint, a phenomenal ca. 1940’s relief constructed of individually pieced, sculpted and painted strips of early fiberglass on a wooden foundation.  Fanged but gentle, his wide mouth leads into an early tin throat painted blood red.  His original home was the Philadelphia Zoo where he served as a functional elaborate disguise to conceal a hidden receptacle for refuse.  However, in later years he was retired and removed to discourage careless feeding of the actual animal population.  Thankfully, this Lion was acquired and preserved within a private folk art collection.  He is clean, exciting, in extraordinary condition whose presence commands attention.  Size: 22” H x 22”W x 13” D.  Price upon request.
