9080   From New York, a mid 1800’s large grey bowl.  Lightweight, wonderful turnings, raised rim and slightly out of round.  Nicely worn, free of any hairlines and that just right feel from an early bowl.  Size: 14.75”L x 13.5”W   $495.00

9231   From Maine a ca. 1800 footed and slightly out of round bowl in its original putty paint.  Surrounding the sides and on the lip are several decorative turnings.  There is a very tight hairline that extends from the lip to the inside (approx. one inch) and a lesser superficial one nearly opposite.  The unique form and proportions are excellent.  It is gorgeous piece with fine patination and just the right feel.  Size:  7.5” x 7.25” x 3.75”D

9229   A ca. 1900 small polychrome pantry box free hand decorated with a white horse integrated within a red star surrounded by dark green within a chrome yellow border all on a black ground.  Additionally surrounding the box is a band of chrome yellow brush strokes.  The interior is painted white identical to the horse.  Copper tacks and wooden pegs constructed.  Colorful, expressive and well preserved.  Size: 2.75”H x 6.5”W   $225.00

9218   From western NY, a mid 1800’s large storage bowl in early sky blue over its original chromium yellow paint.  It is wonderfully hand turned with a single round foot.  The finely ribbed surface heightens the subtle dance between the blue and yellow.  Free of chop marks and nicely out of round with appropriate wear more than excuses a short, hairline at its rim.  An exquisite compliment to a collection or as a functional centerpiece.   Size:  19”L x 18.25”W x 6”D   $895.00

9205   A rare and exceptional pair of circa 1800 hand turned candlesticks in their original pumpkin paint now oxidized to a warm caramel.  Each with slightly different personalities the results of their maker using a foot driven treadle lathe.  No better way to authenticate their age.  Aside from expected minor wear and a very tight hairline in the base of one they remain in very fine condition.  Just a great pair with lots of unspoken history.  Size: 7.25”H x 3”W (at the base)   $550.00

9201   Late 19th century small round splint basket in original tomato red paint over a white base with double wrapped rim, hand drawn grip and a slightly kicked in bottom.  The weave remains intact and very tight free of losses and repairs.  Applied overall an early coat of varnish has alligatored and mellowed except for the bottom with its stronger ketchup flavor.  Size: 11”H (includes grip) x 9.5”W x 6”D (depth of basket)   $220.00

9186   A mid 1800’s pair of diminutive turned wooden canisters or stacking boxes in their original apple green paint.  Overall they are very clean in excellent condition with normal but minimal wear.  Great color accents with purpose.  Size: 2.75”W x 1.625”H   $280.00

     9099   Found in Vermont, an 1800’s splint grain basket in extraordinary spatter paint.  It has double slotted handles, a kicked up bottom and substantially constructed overall.  The ground is early green over grey and spattered black, red, yellow.  Despite its age and loss of a few inches wrap along the rim, it remains tight, rigid and in very fine condition minus any holes or repairs.  Early New England folk art at its finest from the hands of a rural artisan with distinction.  Size: 12”W at top x 10”W at base x 12”H

9180   From the last half of the 19th century a large thick walled bentwood measure in its original dark green paint.  Aside from its size, unique to this piece are the original cast iron grips needed to support the weight of its high volume capacity.  A rolled iron band supports the top and iron tacks are used throughout to secure its structure.  It remains strong overall, free from damage or repairs and may be used with confidence.  Size: 14.25”W x 7”H   $395.00

9165   A late 1800’s pantry box in dry indigo blue over white with a fabulous hand painted peacock in green, black and orange.  Traditionally constructed with copper tacks and wooden pegs.  The piece is in excellent condition with vivid colors.  Size: 5”H x 9.75”W   $385.00

9158   A completely original 19th century softwood firkin staved construction with tapered sides and metal banding, wire bail and a turned hickory handle. The rim on the lid is wrapped, pegged and cleated ending in a tapered end.  It is very clean and tight and would serve as a great storage piece for any décor with its wonderful contrasting black and white paint.  Size: 10.75”H x 10” W (at lid) tapering to 10”W (at bottom)   $295.00

9147   A late 1800’s shaped Pennsylvania gathering basket in its original apple green paint.  Rare to find one with its hand shaved grip fully reinforced with a triple weave minus any breaks.  Nice and tight with no tacks used in its construction.  A desirable early basket with just the right amount of wear in excellent condition.  Size: 18”L x 11.5’W x 8”H (12” H including grip)   $550.00

9145   From New York/ New England a 19th century tall, ash splint basket with distinctive oval profile in early black and white paint.  The rim is single wrapped and unflawed.  The handle, hand shaved and steamed shaped is very tight as is the weave overall.  The construction uses no nails or tacks. In nearly mint condition with but two tiny broken splints, one on the bottom and one on the side.  A sophisticated market basket with great aesthetic appeal.  Size: 15”L X 5.5”W x 15”H (including the handle).   $425.00

9137   Mid 19th century paint decorated bentwood oval pantry box with overlapping sides secured with small copper tacks.  The bottom is secured to the sides with wooden pegs.  Wonderful but worn dry paint in shades of green, yellow, gray, brown, white, black, red (lips), flesh tone and black which all comprise the composition of a colonial woman gazing into a hand mirror at arm’s length.  One tack on the external lap and a tiny splinter from the bottom of the lap are missing.  All other aspects are intact making it a pleasing decorative, nicely executed piece.  Size: 8.75”L x 7”W x 3.5”H   $550.00
